This virtual space is an extension of AEAH 3770 Computer Art Applications and will be used to record class discussions and ongoing conservations relating to the course.
Random reward system: have the students working in class and the teacher goes around and looks for a student that is working diligently, following classroom rules, and generally doing a good job. The teacher then selects that student and invites them to take 10-minute break to play on the game computer. The game computer could be a variety of games for the students to choose from, or one game with a collaborative account. For example, it would be cool if all the students worked together to built a city or environment on Minecraft. Instead of incorporating video games, the break time could be used to work on a large group artwork that only one person can work on at a time. If a student misbehaves badly or is extremely disruptive, they could lose their opportunity to play on the game computer for the day or week.
Another reward system would be picking the best-behaved students out of the class to pick a prize from the teachers treasure chest. The treasure chest would hold inexpensive art supplies, coloring books, and trinkets.
Our idea is based on the game angry birds. We based our system on who they perform during a lesson plan. The lesson will be composed of different parts to it and depending on what and how well they execute the tasks at hand they would receive gold stars for it. If they got the full amount of star given they are able to get their names into a raffle that will take place at certain times, and they will be able to win a prize. At random moments, the teacher can use stickers to put on certain objects that are used everyday, and if a student happens to come upon this item with the sticker then they get have or do whatever the teacher decides will be associated with that sticker. For example the sticker will stand for that student being able to listen to their music of choice during the next class, or they don't have to clean up their mess that day.
We designed a system of cards to congratulate good behavior. Students will collect these in order to get cool stuff. Records will be kept in a windows document (so that students do not steal tickets or buy from others). Tickets will also be handed out to students so they can keep visual records of their progress. With ten tickets, you get a golden ticket. Randomly, a special prize will be given out for golden ticket holders. Example prizes may include: a homework pass, +20pts on an assignment, or a Michaels gift card. Students who misbehave or have out a cell phone for example will have tickets taken and deleted from the windows document.
Kids love free stuff. Why not give cool stuff to those that do not misbehave and punish those who do? This form of game will help keep kids under control!
Skyrim (skill tree model): - Rewards a student for wanting to specialize in a medium. - If a student feels they work best in a particular medium then they are rewarded by "leveling up" and getting increasingly difficult assignments specific to their medium. - (since this would probably discourage kids from wanting to work in other materials this could be an ongoing outside assignment)
Example: I just want to paint, I finish the first assignment and do great, I move on to the next "level." If I'm tired of painting and I want to move on to a different medium, sculpture for instance, then I have to start at level 1 and work my way up. At any point I can return to painting and keep "leveling up."
Random perk: when reaching a certain level of their skill tree they receive a special material exclusive to the medium they choose to work in
Example: if you reach level 5 in painting you receive a big canvas or a new brush
How to keep track: - Each student has a "skill tree" handout taped/pinned in their sketchbook, where I sign off when they reach each level. - Online I will have a leader board posted (pretty much just a spreadsheet), with up-to-date info on where each student is currently at. It can be viewed at any time online, and once a week I will pull up the leader board and we will discuss how everyone's doing.
You start the semester with 1 life but as you do good/are on time/clean up well then you get more.
If you do bad you get a black skull. These can add up to detention/ISS, Saturday school/ etc. How ever intense the punishment may be.
You can also get stars instead of lives (students chooses which they want) with stars you can get extra credit, bring snack to class, skip a quiz. With different amounts of stars you get better "gifts/candy"
